Burnt lime, supplied as lump, pebble or ground. Highly reactive — slakes exothermically on contact with water, which is exactly what makes it effective as a flux and a drying agent.

Slaked lime — quicklime already reacted with water and milled to a dry powder. Safer to handle and dose than quicklime, and the standard choice where a controlled alkali is needed.
